Yes there was a storm last night. But the storm didn't last. The sun came up, and there was play today at OGE ENERGY FIELD.
The WCWS 2015 started today. Two sessions, #1 seed Florida(56-6) vs #8 Tennessee(47-16) and #5 LSU(50-12) vs #4 Auburn(54-9), morning. And #3 Michigan(56-6) vs #6 Alabama(47-13), #7 UCLA(50-10) vs #2 Oregon(51-6), (two Pac-12 foes), evening.
Softball, like baseball, is all about pitching. The morning session game 1 featured Florida's Lauren Haeger (29-1) and Tennessee's Rainey Gaffin(17-4) in the circle. Florida won 7-2. A homerun by Florida's Lauren Haeger in the first inning. Florida added 2 runs in the third, 2 more in the fourth, then 2 more in the sixth. To keep Florida in the winners bracket. Haeger also pitched a complete game. Their next game is tommorrow against LSU. While Tennessee is familiar with Florida, they weren't able to capitalise on that fact. They weren't able to recover from Haeger's command of pitches and the 4 errors that extended innings. 2 in the 4th that scored 2 unearned runs. Then 2 more in the bottom of the 6th that also scored unearned runs. Tennessee plays Auburn on Saturday.
The morning session concluded with LSU taking on Auburn. LSU won 6-1. LSU's Carley Hoover(18-5), while Auburn had Marcy Harper(12-5) in the circle. Harper lasted 2 2/3 innings. Rachel Walters finished for Auburn in the circle. LSU homered in the first, then scored again in the fourth(4). Auburn finally got on the board in the fifth. A sacrifice RBI that scored Morgan Estell. That was it for Auburn. LSU would score again in the top of the 6th.
The evening session was another matter. The weather just wouldn't stay away. Area storms threatening, caused a delay of the start of the first game between Michigan and Alabama. It bypassed long enough to get game 3 in. A complete game by both pitchers. Megan Betsa(Michigan, 31-4) and Alexis Osorio(Alabama, 21-8). An error free game. Other than the 4 runs scored by Michigan in the bottom of the fourth. C Lauren Sweet, put a Grand Slam over the right field wall. That took some time getting there, but it did. Scoring Kelsey Susalla, Kelly Christner, and Sierra Romero. With no outs, that was the last of the scoring by either team. Final 5-0, Michigan. Both teams await the finish of UCLA and Oregon. That game is in a weather delay.
Note:
1. All restarts must began before 12 midnight.
2. 4 Pitchers have pitched complete games at this point in the tournament.
