MBB C-USA Rice Owls HD MBB Co Ben Braun

SMU found the basket, Rice didn't, SMU 61-Rice 39.

Remembering to go your strengths can be a very effective weapon. Because it gives you a baseline (no pun) to get you back on track in time of duress. Rice sometimes didn't remember that tonight. One of there strengths is free throws. Get to the line and score with the clock not running. Where they did a better job in the second half. (10-12). Only 4 opportunities in the first. And that's not taking advantage of your opportunities. Half time 26-17 SMU.
With Austin (Ramljak) and Barhom (Firozgary) in foul trouble. And Gearhart out for a couple of weeks. Rice had no effective size to combat against SMU's Cunningham (Cannen, 6'10) and Williams (Shawn, 6'7). (13, 6 rebs). 30 points in the paint gives a telling story, especially when Rice had a 4 guard line up parts of the second half.To attempt to close the gap.
SMU went up by as much as 24 during the second half. With 10pts from Ryan Manuel during a 6min stretch.Which also included Rice having two 3+min drought's during that same stretch. Every team will at some point have offensive drought's. As a coach you hope the drought is an anomaly that wont last long. As a player, you're shooting everything, trying to get it back in gulps.
The gulps, nor the paitience worked for Rice tonight.

Tomorrow C-USA WBB,... RICE-UH, Noon, Tudor Fieldhouse.

Now, it is about EXPERIENCE. Not Enough to Finish.

Inconsistency, along with not enough college basketball to make good decisions. It seem s to be the plague that is haunting the young Longhorn women. 21 games into the season, down two players to medical (Bass and Reed). Not enough players have stepped up to fill rolls on this team. That's where decisions are made within the players. Coaching can only take you so far. then players have to step up. 21 games, you're not rookies anymore.
The word tonight was, "URGENCY"! The Longhorn scoring drought toward the end of the first half (4:27, 24-25 ISU). A layup by Fussell. Until a jumper by Fussell at 18:34 of the 2nd half.(26-42 Iowa St). As Longhorns Coach Astin said  "the urgency wasn't there." And it has to come very quickly, because this Saturday Baylor come to Frank Erwin, need I say more. It will also be Brittany Griner's last time in Frank Erwin as a college basketball player.
Then it was walk away time for Iowa St. Knocking down 3's (10-24). Iowa St's Anna Prins was (3-5) with timely 3's, to go along with Brynn Williamson (4-6). (19, 15). As a team Iowa St offensively do what they are pretty much known for and that is shoot 3's often. Whether they are making them on a regular basis or not. For Iowa St it is all about their offensive and defensive schemes. It is what works for them.

Final Iowa St 67, Texas 48.

The post game is coming later. Punching it out now.
