Today begins a new day in Texas Southern University Womens Basketball.
Naismath Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, Cynthia Cooper-Dyke was presented around 2:25PM, as the new womens basketball coach for the TSU Lady Tigers. With this hiring, the Houston area college womens basketball scene changes.
In that the brand of college womens basketball we've been watching will change competitively. One of Naismath Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, Cooper-Dyke, favorite muses is, "Are you committed to winning." A winner is who she is, and will always be. As a player on the college and pro level. And as a Coach on the pro and college level she has found a way to make adjustments, figure it out, and won. She's taken two college Div I teams to post season play, (Prairie View A&M Univ-2 yrs and UNC-Wilmington-2 yrs). She also has been able to get 20+ wins out both programs, at 2 each school. With those accomplishments she has picked up 3 Coach of the Year honors in between the CAA(Colonial Athleitc Association) and SWAC(Southwestern Athletic Conference).
Definitely recruiting will change but, more than that, basketball playing style will change. At some point, once the conference realignments get settled with the local schools. Hopefully a local rotating Womens Basketball Classic will be on the horizon.

FYI: UNC-Wilmington's pryor post season participation had been 1980-81, 1981-82 to NCAIAW.

UH Lady Cougars win game 1 against ECU Lady Pirates, 13-5.

Score 3(Houston), give up 2(East Carolina), top of the next inning. Is not a way to start a game. Especially if it is the 1st game of a double-header. Two today and one tomorrow. And with both teams having an error a piece. Thank goodness for starting pitcher Diedre Outon settled down to taking care of the business in front of her. And that was taking control of the game from the circle. No starting pitcher wants extended innings. But such is life, for the Lady Cougars scored 5 runs bottom of the 2nd. Both teams go without a run in the 3rd. Both teams scored during the 4th. 1 run by ECU and 3 by the Lady Cougars. ECU would score 2 top of the 4th which would require the Lady Cougars to come to bat in the bottom of the 5th. 2 runs would settle the game.

Photos of game 1 at Cougar Field of todays double-header between C-USA foes UH Lady Cougars vs ECU Lady Pirates.

Final: UH 13, 18 hits, 2 ers.
ECU 5, 8 hits, 1er.

BAYLOR WINS 80-61. 2012 DIV I WOMENS CHAMPIONS

To say that Baylor dominated this game is truly an understatement. Baylor-80, ND-61. Post game ceremonies are going on now. Notre Dame will be heading to podium in a few. Then the champions from Baylor. Baylor nation should bvbe very proud of themselves. Motto this year was "unfinished business." Well business got finished. Baylor University is the 2012 NCAA Div I Womens Champions. More later...

TSU Tigers 19-7, get a three game sweep over Wiley College. Go to 8-1 for the season.

The Texas Southern Tigers batted around several times today at MacGregor Park. Wiley College is probably wondering what happened as they road out of town today. A double digit loss might get to you mentally. But, you had better not let it linger. And if it is a double digit win, better not give yourself too much confidence. Because, it's still early in season. With that said, TSU Tiger BB Coach Michael Robertson talks about the win today and the Urban Invitational, that the Tigers participated in at Minute Maid Park.

Rice goes to 5-5 in ConferenceUSA play. Wins 79-71.

What a way to start a game. Nearly 8 minutes go off the game clock before there is a score of any kind by Rice. Basketball being what it is, a game of streaks and runs. Well, the Rice Owls found theirs, and theirs being the bench. Jarelle Reischel, gave a good accounting of himself, tonight. With contribution from fellow Frosh, Dylan Ennis. The ship got steadied and Rice's struggles became an after thought. To the UH Cougars it became somewhat a nightmare. Especially with the great defensive effort they had to start the game. You would think that, to hold a team to zero points for an extended length of time in a game 12:02(1st period, 3-13) to be exact. A 3pointer by Rice's Tamir Jackson. From 12:02 to the end of the 1st period, Rice out scores UH, 35-21. UH is down by 1 at half, 53-34. By 3 ptr, by J. J. Thompson, with :02 left on the clock.

Tashawn Thomas's jumper to start the second half, to give UH the temporary lead 36-35. Seemed like the start of good things for the Cougars. But, it would only be temporary. Then it would go back and forth. There would be 8 lead changes. The largest lead was 13, in the 1st period. No lead in the 2nd half more than 4. Until the 3:36 mark of the 2nd half, when RICE started to extend it a 6-8 cushion. And when it was time to finish, RICE had answers.

Now it gets interesting going toward the back end of ConferenceUSA play. RICE is 14-14, (5-5), while UH falls to 11-12, (3-7). Can RICE keep going to it's bench, and when will the Cougars put in a consistent defensive game together?

THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY of the YEAR (NLI)

Is the most day of the year for the school or is it for the alumni of the school? Not going to try to answer that today. It would take too much time and too much space. But I am going to leave it out there.
In the early morning and the fax (yes, fax machines are still a required mode of sending NCAA Legal paperwork), is starting up. After checking for enough paper and dry ink, punch those phone numbers in and send away. This is the day coaches find out if their road work is being rewarded or had the rug pulled out from under them. Been hearing a lot of this and that about guys decommitting. And other guys not sure of where they really want to go school. Well they’ve got until April 1, 2012 to sign FB NLI. Now comes the hard part. WAITING.

WBSKB- Rice vs Texas State, Rice wins 73-66. Rice moves to 5-5 on the season.

This game had an interesting sidebar, coach against former player (Rice Owl Co Greg Williams and Texas State Co Zenarae Antoine, a first for Co Williams). It also marked the first game one Jessica Kuster. One connection banded them all together, basketball and of course Colorado State Rams. After coming into a situation where they only won five games last year. Co Zenarae Antoine has already got the Texas State Lady Bobcats at 4-4. The season is looking up.

They each have a story to tell, here them out.

2012 Homecoming, PV Panthers hosting Alabama A&M Bulldogs.

Homecoming should be about family, friends getting together to have fun. And when it involves a school homecoming, in some ways it has special meaning to those involved. both teams got off to a slow start. First half ends with a 3-0 Bulldog lead. The Bulldogs start the second half with 14 unanswered points. PV counters with a safety, score is 17-2 Bulldogs, end of third. The safety gives PV life as they get 13 in the 4th qtr. But, it is no avail. A fumble by PV with 21 seconds left in the game finishes their chance of pulling off a victory. Final score 17-15 Alabama A&M.
