RICE Owls Sr F Jessica Kuster became the new scoring leader(1852) for the Lady Owls. A record that has stood for 32 years, held by Pat Krieger. And in the same amount of games it took for Krieger (Pat) to get her to become the time scoring leader. At the 3:23 mark of the 2nd period. Kuster pulled up and took a 3 from the top of the circle to get the record. Ironically it was her last made bucket of the night. There's one other record she has her eye on, and that's the ConferenceUSA 60 dbl-dbls set by UH's Courtney Taylor(07-11), she now has 58. Bringing her tied for 30th over all in NCAA. She is also one of 6 active D1 players with at least 1,000+pts and 1,000+rebs.
The Lady Owls returned home from a 2 game road trip to play a hot Tulane squad. That was looking to stay in C-USA contention for 1st place. While the Owls lost to both ECU(53-47), Charlotte(58-53). Tulane was on a 3 game win streak, that continues to now 4. They are (6-1,15-5) with the win tonight. Tulane was lead by Jamie Kaplan(15,5ast), Leslie Vorpahl(12,4ast), Adesuwa Ebomwonyi(10,5rebs), and Chinwe Duru(7,6rebs).
Meanwhile, Rice falls to the middle of the pack with this lost (10-10, 3-4). Besides Kuster's (14,14rebs), Rice also had Christal Porter(8,11rebs), and Maya Hawkins(10).
After being tied 28-28 all at half, the Owls could only shoot 32%(10-31)for 2nd half. And made only 6(5) trips to free-throw line.
Coach Stockton Tulane Green Wave, on Jessica Kuster,...
"She's just a dynamic player. She's played the point guard and played the five. She's played every position. I think where she's underrated is she's such a leaper. You can't block her shot. That's one thing we made a rule about today, you can't block her shot. You've got to challenge it. She can really do some things. She has a lot of pressure with this team and really came through. That 3 from the top of the key cut the margin, and that's just the player she is."
